The FPS gamer community has been supplied with many high quality games over the recent years. Games like Battlefield 3 and the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Black Ops series as well as the Halo franchise have attracted millions of gamers to online multiplayer gaming. Many gamers have much to learn about online fps strategy and tactics though, even many 'high ranked' players. Modern games are designed to hook gamers in the sense that there is a seemingly endless supply of medals, ranks, weapons, pins, perks, etc to unlock. Hence it is possible to climb the ladders and reach high ranks just by playing. However, playing online for hundreds of hours and getting a lot of experience points is not the same as gaining SKILL and learning about strategy and tactics. This site presents tactics and strategy elements that can be implemented in any online first person shooter (and some third person shooters as well). Gamers who play online should regularly seek new tips and guides to improve their online multiplayer gameplay. That is how skill grows. Many strategies and tactics presented on this site are (or at least should be) common sense to veteran FPS gamers. Think about that for a moment. Do you REALLY play accordingly? The mature gamer realizes that there is no end to learning.
Target reader
The strategies, tactics and tips presented on this site is useful information for both gamers who are new to FPS games as well gamers who have invested hundreds of hours in online FPS games. Self-criticism is great. Identify your weaknesses and implement counter measures to improve. Novice gamers should head to theBe a Winnerpage first. Progressing Intermediate players are expected to understand the tips presented on that page. They should instead dig into the FPS Tacticspage. However, reading through both pages won't hurt anyone. If you are looking for specific Battlefield 3 tips and tactics head to the Battlefield 3 page.
A few words to female gamers
The online FPS gaming community is dominated by males, there is no doubt about it. However, many females play these games and of course do it just as well as males. Online multiplayer gaming is a perfect arena for both 'sides' to compete TOGETHER as skill and team play capability are the only things that matter. If you prefer not to use the headset (see the Communication section on the FPS Tacticspage) try to find gamers to play and communicate with in game site forums or via dedicated female game sites. See the Links page for suggestions.

First person shooters offer a wide variety of gameplay and settings. No matter if you live sci-fi or fighting in real world wars, you’ll find it covered in these best FPS games for PS4. Check out the list and let us know your favorites in the comments below!
15. Killing Floor 2
This zombie-based co-op shooter is some of the most fun you can have online with your friends. You’ll team up with your friends to fight in horde mode battles with a range of weapons you can upgrade. Killing Floor 2 is packed with tense moments and can be surprisingly deep for an online game.
14. Rainbow Six Siege
Rainbow Six Siege is an excellent tactical shooter that deserves a spot on this list, but be aware of its community. Ubisoft has been working hard to curb toxic player behavior in the game, but its high-stakes nature requires full communication. The result is an occasional match where you’ll be yelled at for accidentally team-killing an idiot who ran around the corner while you were aiming.
13. Fallout 4
The world of Fallout returns to the decimated Eastern Coast of the United States in Fallout 4. Players can roam around The Commonwealth wasteland and help Preston Garvey restore the Minute Men to their full glory. It’s the first Fallout game to feature base-building. The GOTY edition of Fallout 4 features all of the DLC from the season pass included.
12. Battlefield 1
Battlefield 1 recreates many famous battles from WW1 in stunning, chilling detail. The single-player campaign for most Battlefield games tends to be skippable, but not this game. Even if you don’t plan on playing it online, play the Battlefield 1 campaign. It goes back to the early days of Call of Duty when these games highlighted the real heroic feats of soldiers in the past.
11. Metro Redux
Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light has been remastered for the PS4 in the Metro Redux release. The result is two gorgeous games that introduce you to the world of survival horror in Russia’s underground metro stations. If you love story-driven FPS games on PS4, start here and move on to Metro Exodus.
10. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection
Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel with all of their respective DLC make up this release. It’s a fun series that employs a unique, cel-shaded style that you don’t see often. The gunplay is not as good as Destiny or Titanfall, but the sheer customization alone is worth a playthrough. You’ll find plenty of crazy humor and characters to love along the way, too.
9. Titanfall 2
Titanfall 2 added a full-length campaign for the sequel that went multi-platform after being Xbox exclusive. The result is one of the best story-driven FPS campaigns you’ll find on PS4. Fast-paced shooting combined with parkour and giant mechs makes Titanfall 2 one of the most fluid FPS games available. Oh, and the online multiplayer is pretty fun, if dead this late in the game’s cycle.
8. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
There’s no single-player campaign in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. That’s a bummer for a lot of people, but many more just enjoy the online modes. Traditional multiplayer still exists, but the real highlight here is co-op zombie mode and Blackout. Blackout is CoD: BLOPS 4’s take on battle royale. If you’re a fan of multiplayer shooters on PS4 and climbing the ladders, this is your game.
7. Far Cry 5
Far Cry 5’s current setting of dealing with a homegrown cult in the state of Montana is a new take on a story. The gameplay feels familiar if you’ve played any of the previous games, but that’s not a knock against Far Cry 5. The game features drop-in co-op so you can go exploring with a friend. There’s also plenty of crazy DLC and a full standalone expansion that depicts the world after the events of Far Cry 5.
6. Wolfenstein: The New Colossus
Bethesda worked hard to revive the Doom and Wolfenstein franchises, and it has paid off in spades. Wolfenstein gives players a return to stomping Nazis that we’ve been begging for since the last Wolfenstein game in 2008. The New Colossus turns things on its head by being based in the Nazi-occupied United States.
Want to explore a world similar to The Man in the High Castle? Bethesda has re-created that vibe amazingly well with The New Colossus storyline.
5. Destiny 2
I went back and forth on putting Destiny 2 on this list. It lands in the fifth spot because the Forsaken expansion finally added meat to this game’s barebones. Destiny 2 is a superb FPS to play, and Bungie’s split with Activision only cements its future. The PvPvE mode Gambit is a blast to play, and the base game is free, now.
4. Apex Legends
Apex Legends is the only battle royale game I’ll include on the list of best FPS shooters for PS4. That’s because it’s made by the same team who created Call of Duty and Titanfall. The fluid gameplay feels great from a shooting perspective, and the class-based gameplay makes each match feel different.
3. Overwatch
Overwatch offers some of the most fun you can have in an online shooter. The class-based gameplay means you’re sure to find a character you can master in maps based on locations around the world. Overwatch combines class-based gameplay with ultimate abilities from the MOBA genre for a unique brand of online fun.

2. Metro Exodus
Metro Exodus is the chilling conclusion to the Metro series. The creepy story-driven nature of the game makes it one of the best horror shooters in a long time. You’ll need to keep your wits about you as you learn to avoid certain combat situations in favor of stealth in this survival horror game.
Don’t start the series with Exodus, though. Start with the Metro Redux combo pack mentioned earlier.
1. Doom
Doom is at the top of our list because this is the one FPS game for PS4 for you should play immediately. The game harkens back to the early days of PC gaming where your only mission is to stop aliens out of existence on Mars. The frantic, fast-paced shooting style inspired later games on this list. The developers paid special attention to recreate the old-school level design many gamers remember.
